Iran and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding to expand energy cooperation.
The MoU that included building collaboration in oil, gas, petrochemicals, electricity and nuclear power, was signed in Tehran by Deputy Oil Minister Amir Hossein Zamaninia and Russian Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.
It was signed during the third meeting of the Iran-Russia Energy Working Group in Tehran on Monday.
“Cooperation in the exploration, extraction and production of oil and gas and investment in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries have been outlined in the agreement,” Hossein Esmaeili Shahmirzadi, director-general of the department for America, Europe and Caspian States at the Oil Ministry said.
Standardizing Iranian and Russian oil industry equipment is one of the issues that the two countries have agreed upon.
“With the implementation of this clause, the two sides will have access to oil and gas industry equipment in each other’s country,” Shana quoted Esmaeili Shahmirzadi as saying.
Cooperation in the Caspian Sea was another topic of agreement.
The Research Institute of Petroleum Industry and other energy institutions had fruitful talks with the Russians in research areas.
The third Iran-Russia Energy Working Group met on the sidelines of the 15th Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the two neighbors.
During the session on Tuesday, Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak described Russia and Iran as good neighbors and partners, saying that his country is determined to develop bilateral relations.
A day earlier, Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Novak discussed cooperation in the energy sector and within the framework of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
“Iran and Russia have good partnership potential in the sphere of trade and oil-gas swap” Zanganeh was quoted as saying.
