Irish Parliament Backs Stronger Ties With Tehran

Speaker of the Irish Parliament's lower house, Sean O Fearghail, said his country’s legislative body is willing to help enhance cooperation with Iran in various sectors.

“We in the parliament of Ireland support the expansion of relations [with Iran] in different areas,” he said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Masoud Eslami in Dublin on Thursday, IRNA reported.

He also highlighted the current favorable ties strengthened by the reciprocal visits of parliamentary delegations, adding that there are multiple opportunities for trade expansion between the two states.

Iran’s ambassador said the growing parliamentary relations can pave the way for closer collaboration in political, economic and cultural spheres.

“There are opportunities for investment and business in Iran, especially in free trade zones,” he said, expressing the country’s readiness to cooperate in fields such as technology, agriculture and medicine.

At the meeting, Fearghail was also officially invited to visit Iran.
