Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif is to leave Tehran for Iraq on Sunday as part of a regional tour to boost the country’s international relations.
He will head a high-level political and economic delegation, including top directors from tens of state and private companies, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying by ISNA.
During the trip, the diplomatic team will attend meetings with high-ranking Iraqi officials and joint business conferences in several Iraqi cities, including Karbala and Sulaymaniyah.
Iraq is Iran’s top trade partner after China and a major importer of Iranian goods. It also relies heavily on Iranian gas and electricity.
Zarif had just arrived in Tehran on Thursday from a three-day visit to India aimed at bolstering economic cooperation.
