NIDC Expands Oil and Gas Drilling Operations

The National Iranian Drilling Company has drilled 98 onshore and offshore wells since March, the company’s deputy managing director for drilling operations said.

"With the help of 70 offshore and onshore rigs, NIDC, a subsidiary of National Iranian Oil Company, has drilled 127,000 meters of oil and gas wells nationwide," Mohammad Ale-Khamis was quoted as saying by the NIOC news portal.

Of the total, 44 were development and exploratory wells and 54 underwent repairs.

"The wells were drilled in oilfields managed by the National Iranian South Oil Company, the Iranian Offshore Oil Company and the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company in the West Karoun oil block that includes several large oilfields straddling the Iran-Iraq border, namely Yaran, Yadavaran and Darkhoein," Ale-Khamis said.

He noted that Fat'h-32 and 33 drilling rigs were sent to Fars Province for drilling two exploratory wells.

The state-run company uses modern methods in addition to complying with health, safety and environment regulations, he said.

A leading player in the key oil and gas drilling industry in the Middle East, NIDC is working to secure a footprint in the oil- and gas-rich states namely in Iraq, Oman and Qatar.

NIDC undertakes both offshore and onshore drilling activities and provides more than 90% of drilling services needed by domestic oil companies.

According to the official, NIDC staff is trained in Scotland's Aberdeen Drilling School, a specialist well control and well engineering training provider that offers internationally certified drilling and well intervention courses worldwide.
