A senior Iranian official reminded European countries that they do not have unlimited time to ensure the fulfillment of their obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal to offset the impact of the US pullout from the agreement.
Majid Takht-Ravanchi, deputy for political affairs at the Presidential Office, highlighted Iran's responsible approach to its commitments under the accord and urged the European countries party to the deal to show their dedication by making practical moves.
"The continuation of every international agreement requires all sides' fulfillment of their duties," he said in an address to a Tuesday meeting in Brussels on Iran-Europe cooperation and the future of the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, IRNA reported.
Takht-Ravanchi censured the United States' "irresponsible" and "illegal" withdrawal from JCPOA and its violation of international law, warning about the consequences of other countries' inaction toward “this dangerous behavior”.
The US abandoned the 2015 nuclear pact between Iran and the six world powers in May and reimposed sanctions on Tehran, but other parties have remained committed to the landmark agreement. Iran expects the European Union to preserve the pact by securing measures to help circumvent US sanctions.
Tehran has frequently declared that it has options to act if Europe failed to compensate Iran for the sanctions in a timely manner.
Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif had earlier told the media that Iran could "reduce its implementation" of the agreement and possibly increase uranium enrichment activities, if the nuclear agreement was jeopardized by "the actions of the Americans and the passivity of the Europeans".
