Consumption of jet fuel in the first half of the current fiscal (began in March) has declined by about one million liters compared with the corresponding period last year, director of the Aviation Fuel Department at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company said Monday.
“In the first half of this year more than 7.2 million liters of jet fuel was delivered to 1,289 aircrafts,” Morteza Abedini said, noting that consumption during the first six months last year was 8.3 million liters for 1,345 planes, Mehr News Agency reported.
Jet fuel is a specialized type of fuel used to power aircrafts. It is generally of a higher quality than what is used in heating or road transport.
Iran produces fuel used in aircraft and helicopters and also exports it to Armenia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Central Asia and Pakistan.
The reduction in jet fuel consumption is due to the significant drop in air travel in the first half of this year. Airline ticket prices have increased substantially because of volatility in foreign exchange market in the period.
