As part of plans to prepare Hamedan to serve as an Asian capital of tourism as well as hosting two major international events this year, the province is being extensively promoted across the country as a desirable holiday destination.
After Hamedan's urban spaces, Tehran's metro stations and billboards and East Azarbaijan's El Golu historical park, posters introducing Hamedan 2018 event are now being showcased along highways in Isfahan Province, according to Ali Malmir, head of provincial office of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
"The intercity passenger trains in Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (locally abbreviated as RAJA) also carry advertisements of Hamedan in their regular routes to metropolises such as Mashhad, Tabriz, Ahvaz, shiraz and Yazd, making it the most extensive advertising campaign in Iran's history of tourism," Malmir was quoted as saying by CHTN.
It has been a while since Hamedan has been selected as the capital of tourism among member states of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue. ACD is an inter-governmental organization with 34 member countries founded to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level. An International Conference on "Hamedan as the ACD Tourism Capital, 2018" is also slated for August 27-29 in the city to mark the nomination.
The historical city is also hosting the UNWTO's 40th Plenary Session of the Affiliate Members planned for November 12 to 14.
The Plenary Session will reportedly bring together over 500 travel-related companies, educational and research institutions and NGOs from around the world.
Provincial officials see the events as an opportunity to boost the region's tourism industry by improving infrastructure and developing facilities. Potential domestic travelers are targeted in the new advertising plan. The province is also expected to see an economic upturn and new investment opportunities thanks to the international events and the global nomination.
