Titled “Omar Khayyam Millennium Anniversary,” the session is the first in a series of events planned by the Society for the National Heritage of Iran in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and Institute for Promotion of Contemporary Visual Art

According to Hassan Bolkhari, head of heritage society, the meetings will also be held in Tabriz and Isfahan, Fniavaran.ir wrote.

The event meeting will be attended by orientalists and Khayyam scholars from Serbia, Russia and Qatar, who will speak about the distinguished philosopher and his works.

Khayyam was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, philosopher and poet of the 11th century. He wrote treatises on mechanics, geography, mineralogy, music and Islamic theology. He also contributed to the preparing of the Jalali calendar, a precursor to the current Iranian calendar.

English poet and writer Edward FitzGerald (1809-1883) was the most influential scholar in introducing Khayyam to the West through the translation of his quatrains.
