2 Gold, 1 Bronze in Greco-Roman Grand Prix in Hungary

On the first day of Hungarian Greco-Roman Grand Prix “Polyák Imre Memorial,” in Györ, Hungary, Iranian wrestlers bagged three medals on Saturday.

Mohsen Hajipour in the 63kg category and Yousef Qaderian in 82kg won gold, while Ali Arsalan took a bronze medal, IRNA wrote.

After resting in the first round, Hajipour went on the mat against Serbian wrestler Nadj Tamas and emerged as the victor. He defeated Krisztian Istvan Vanzca from the host country in the second clash and became finalist against the Egyptian Hassan Hassan Ahmed Mohamed.

In a challenging contest, Hajipour won 3-2 and saw the gold around his neck. Urmatbek Amatov of Kyrgyzstan won bronze.

The second gold was for Qaderian in the 82kg class where he hammered the Kazakh Yevgeniy Poliadov, and the Kyrgyz opponent Atabek Azizbekov respectively to clear the path to finals where he defeated Hungarian wrestler Péter Bácsi, the 2014 world champion, to win gold. Azizbekov qualified for a bronze medal.

Iran team also won a bronze on the first day thanks to Ali Arsalan in the 72kg class. Arsalan rested in the first round. Defeating Robert Attila Frisch from the host nation, Arsalan went into the semifinal with the Croat wrestler Dominik Etlinger. Unable to beat Etlinger he went into repechage games to fight China’s Hujun Zhang. Arsalan humbled the Chinese 14-3 and got bronze.

Balint Korpasi from the host country won gold in the 72kg category and Etlinger settled for silver.

The tournament is registered in the United World Wrestling calendar, so the points in the games augment the wrestlers’ rankings.

The two-day Hungarian Grand Prix ended on Sunday. Three Iranian wrestlers competed with their rivals on Sunday but their results were not available by the time the paper went to print.
