A new scheme has been devised to facilitate the arduous task of finding a parking place in the tightly-packed streets and alleys of Tehran. Using a mobile application, citizens will be able to book a spot by making online payments, and violators of the scheme will be fined.
Head of Transport Commission in Tehran City Council Mohammad Alikhani detailed the plan. “No further parking meters will be installed in Tehran, and from now on, street parking is set to be regulated through apps and online infrastructures provided by technology firms.”
According to him, by using the application, citizens will be able to book parking spots by making online payments.
He further notes, “In case a place is occupied without a booking receipt, the driver will have to pay a fine,” adding that the implementation of the scheme has been long overdue, reported local automotive website Asbe Bokhar.
He also talked about the existing parking meters, stating that no plans have been made so far to remove them from across the city, and replacement arrangements will be made when the need arises.
Prior to the introduction of online systems, citizens could use parking meters to reserve a spot; although, a lack of knowledge about the working mechanisms of the devices prevented some from using them altogether.
