Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said on Sunday Iran will continue to swap Turkmenistan's gas with Azerbaijan. "Tehran and Ashgabat have agreed not to stop swapping Turkmenistan's gas through Iran, while talks are underway to resolve the financial issues between the two countries regarding their gas contract," Zanganeh was also quoted as saying by IRNA. He was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with Turkmenistan’s visiting Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov who was leading a high-ranking political-economic delegation. According to previous reports, Iran receives near 6 million cubic meters per day of Turkmenistan's gas and delivers the same amount to Azerbaijan that shares borders with Iran in the northwest. Referring to the gas row between the two countries, Zanganeh said, "Iran will not import gas from Turkmenistan in winter." Iran received Turkmen's gas in the cold season to meet its domestic demand, but Turkmenistan abruptly cut supplies last year to make Iran pay nine times the price of their gas contract.
