Sitting volleyball national squad guaranteed a convincing win at the World Para Volley Men’s World Super 6, beating the Ukrainian side on Saturday.
Iran ended Ukraine’s winning hopes by gaining a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18 and 25-18) victory at Sadra Sport Complex in Tabriz, East Azarbaijan Province, IRNA reported.
The Iranians started the opening set intensely and fired the balls into the Ukrainian side to show their dominance over the rival to take the set by 25 points to 14.
The squad continued to preserve the dominance in the second set where the team kept pace establishing a seven-point lead, and won 25-18. Set-winning trend continued for Iran in the third set and sealed the game 25-18.
It was Iran’s third consecutive victory at the competition after defeating Russia and Bosnia.
The Iranians, who had sealed their first win of the tournament by beating Russia 3-0 the previous day, had a hard time in the encounter with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Bosnian side won the first set 25-22, before Iran overcame the deficit and won the second and third sets 25-17 and 25-19. The European side, however, claimed the fourth set by 25 points to 22.
Iranians eventually emerged victorious at the end of the five-set thriller and claimed the decider set 15-12.
World Para Volley Men’s World Super 6 kicked off on April 19 and will run through April 24.
The event has attracted national teams from six countries namely Iran, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Russia, Ukraine and the US.
Head of East Azarbaijan sport and youth affairs, Ayoub Behtaj, told reporters earlier this month that $22,000 will be given as awards to the top three teams and the best players will also receive cash prizes.
