A flight between the two port cities of Bandar Abbas and Bandar-e Jask in Hormozgan Province was launched on Sunday by Iran's national airline, Iran Air.
According to Mahmoud Amani, the director of Hormozgan's airports company, the debut flight was scheduled for Feb. 28 but was called off due to adverse weather conditions, Tinn News reported.
Therefore, the first flight took off on Sunday by one of Iran Air's recently purchased ATR turboprops.
"It is scheduled to operate twice a week but could be expanded upon request," he said. The Oil Ministry is planning to turn Bandar-e Jask on Makran coasts into a key oil terminal.
Iran Air took delivery of four ATR aircraft in May 2017 and four more later in 2017. It will receive 12 other turboprop aircraft by the end of 2018 and aims to use them to expand its short-haul routes.
