The first Muscat-Shiraz route operated by SalamAir, an Omani airline, will be officially launched in the near future to strengthen air transportation ties, the commercial attache at the Iranian Embassy in Oman said. According to Abbas Abdolkhani, the flight will be launched by late January, if Iran reaches an agreement with Oman, the official website of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran reported. The increasing interest of Omani travelers in the attractions of Iran's historically rich province of Fars was the reason why organizers chose Shiraz, the capital of the province, as the flight destination. "Routes to other tourist spots in Iran will be launched if the first flight proves to be successful," he said. Currently, Oman operates direct flights to Tehran and Mashhad on a daily basis. Additionally, Iranian Aseman and Kish airline companies operate three routes between Muscat and the Iranian cities of Shiraz, Bandar Abbas and Qeshm.
