Iran Weightlifter Wins Bronze in Ashgabat

Iranian weightlifter Ali Miri won a bronze medal in the 85-kg weight category at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games underway in Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan.

Registering a record 160 kg in snatch and 201 kg in the clean-and-jerk section, he qualified for a bronze, IRNA reported.

The 5th edition of the games is underway with athletes from 49 countries from Asia and the Pacific region.

Iran’s squad includes 214 athletes (115 male and 66 female).

Iranian athletes have participated in 20 fields, namely futsal, table tennis, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Sambo, Kurash, Jujutsu, bowling, billiards, cycling, track-and-field, swimming, weightlifting, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, Pahlavani wrestling, Alysh, basketball, taekwondo, horse-riding and chess.
