Natural disasters cost the country 100 trillion rials ($2.6 billion) each year according to the head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society. Speaking at the first national festival of disaster prevention hosted by Radio Salamat, Amirhossein Ziaei stressed the importance of investing in educational programs to reduce losses caused by disasters. “During the last fiscal (March 2016-17), about 4 million people involved in natural and man-made disasters were rescued by the IRCS,” the official was quoted as saying by Tabnak news website.
