Blood transfusion authorities in Hormozgan Province have called on the public to donate blood as the southern province faces a severe blood shortage. Iman Zare’ei, director of the provincial Blood Transfusion Department, said Hormozgan has to grapple with a deficit in its blood banks every summer. “The daily demand for blood here is between 120 and 160 units,” he said, stressing that the province is in particular need of O negative and B negative blood types. Every unit of blood is roughly equal to 525 milliliters. One unit of blood has the potential to save up to three lives.
