Azeri President's Upcoming Visit Discussed

A visit by Azeri President Ilham Aliyev to Tehran planned in the coming weeks was discussed by Iran's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Javad Jahangirzadeh and Azerbaijan's Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubov. Speaking in the meeting on Tuesday, the Iranian envoy said Iran's Interior Ministry is eager to develop ties with the Azeri counterpart under Usubov's watch, and is waiting for him to visit Tehran, Fars News Agency reported. Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli paid a visit to Baku in early October to discuss bilateral relations with high-ranking Azeri officials, including the country's president. Usubov described the two countries as "brothers" with "deep religious, historical and cultural commonalities", expressing satisfaction with "excellent progress" in Tehran-Baku cooperation in recent years. "Fighting terrorism and extremism, in addition to battling organized crime such as drug trafficking", are favorable areas for expanding bilateral collaboration, he said. The two officials also discussed an upcoming visit of Iran's Justice Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi to Baku.
