No Preservatives in Canned Food

Preservatives are not permitted to be used in canned food products, according to regulations of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Nastaran Mohammadi, head of Monitoring and Evaluation of Plant-Based Food Products at the FDA, dismissed reports on social media that canned foods in Iran contain a harmful preservative that can lead to iron deficiency and anemia in consumers, IRNA reported. Canning is a method of preserving food in which the food contents are processed and sealed in an airtight container. “But no preservatives are used,” he said.
