High Growth Potential in Iran’s ICT Sector

Currently, 64 data centers in Iran offer hosting services for local websites, the deputy minister of communications and information technology said earlier this week. Nasrollah Jahangard added that with the improvement of the structure of telecoms and information technology networks, the quality and speed of services have also increased throughout the country. “The information and communications technology market is dynamic and brings about lucrative business across the nation,” Mehr News Agency quoted the official as saying. “The goal set for the ICT sector is to increase its share in gross domestic product by up to 6%; the figure currently stands at 2.5%.” The deputy minister also said telecoms and information technology market in Iran is worth 270 trillion rials ($7.5 billion), of which 84% account for telecoms technologies. Jahangard added that in the past three years, with the development of third-generation and fourth-generation wireless mobile telecommunications, local Internet technology firms have quickly adapted. “Iran’s information and communications technology market has the potential to grow by more than 10 trillion rials ($278 million),” he said.
