The Drought and Environment Headquarters at Iran's Vice Presidency for Science and Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding with the French firm Suez Company to benefit from the latest technological advancements in water management and receive assistance with relevant research projects.
The MoU will be enacted in six phases. The first phase, which involves holding training workshops, will be carried out in six sessions dealing with the comprehensive management of water and catchment area, desalination methods and appropriate policies for Iran, wastewater management technologies and energy reuse and recycling.
It will also cover urban networks operations and advanced technologies, modern agricultural techniques, farming in dry regions, drought management and the reversible quality of climate change, ISNA reported.
The other phases include conducting studies on groundwater and freshwater springs within Iran's territory in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman, desalination, rainwater harvesting and reducing vaporization.
Pointing to plans to locate the country's deep groundwater resources, Hosseinali Bahrami, secretary of the headquarters, said some watersheds in Iran provide water for neighboring countries due to the natural flow of the water current, "while we struggle with water shortage".
"Identifying these watersheds, regardless of whether we'll tap into them, is on our agenda," he said.
Bahrami noted that the projects will be undertaken by Iranian experts and French specialists will cooperate in areas new to Iranians.
