Kurdish traditional ensemble ‘Mukriyan’ will perform at Expo Milan 2015 representing a part of Iranian folkloric music.

The group has left Iran for Italy and will stage the traditional Kurdish dance at Iran’s pavilion at the expo as well as in the open grounds, Mehr News Agency reported.

Moreover, they plan to perform parts of their rituals including the harvest celebration, thanksgiving and prayers for rain which is in line with the central theme of this year’s expo, “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”.

The group will be the 10th Iranian ensemble to perform at the expo for 15 days.

Several other regional Iranian music groups have performed at this year’s edition. Programs by music groups from Gilan Province in northern Iran, Bushehr Province in south and Zagros region in the west have already been welcomed by both visitors and the media.

Mukriyan is a Kurdish region in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province. Kurdish traditional movements are interesting in terms of rhythm and coordination and the band including prominent artists and talented young people will stage their musical performances with traditional instruments.

Iran has a large pavilion at the expo and has organized a chain of various exhibitions, meetings, workshops and artistic performances that present rich Iranian-Islamic traditions and culture.

Expo Milano 2015, composed of over 60 pavilions, aims to attract 20 million visitors during the six months of the exposition, which ends on October 31.
