Environmental protection must be deeply ingrained in Iranian culture, and the ministries of oil, energy and industries must make environmental education a priority in the current Iranian year (started March 21), according to the Department of Environment’s education and research deputy, Mahnaz Mazaheri. She pointed to the dire state of environment in the country and said government bodies must cooperate to promote awareness, IRNA reported. Referring to the vast resources of the aforementioned ministries, Mazaheri said they are in a position to have a profound impact on the country’s environmental goals. She called for the formation of joint working groups to allow ministries to exchange ideas and find ways of promoting environmental education.
