Deputy cooperatives minister for social affairs, Ahmad Meydari, in a meeting with Mexican ambassador to Tehran, Ulises Canchola Gutierrez, called for expansion of South-South cooperation – a term historically used by policymakers and academics to describe the exchange of resources, technology, and knowledge between developing countries.
Recalling his last year’s trip to Mexico when he visited the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development (CONEVAL) and the ministry of social development, the official praised the successful activities carried out by CONEVAL in the area of fighting poverty, expressing the ministry’s interest in sharing experience.
The Mexican envoy, for his part, called for the expansion of multilateral cooperation between Tehran and Mexico City and said: “It is of utmost importance for Mexico to form trilateral cooperation with Iran and UNICEF for poverty eradication.”
He further suggested extending cooperation between Iran, Mexico, UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) in health-related areas.
Noting that Iran’s minister of cooperatives, labor and social welfare, Ali Rabie will be in Geneva in June to attend the 104th session of the International Labor Conference, he proposed holding a meeting between him and Mexico’s minister of social development to discuss collaboration.
