Iran exported 171.119 metric tons of pistachio, valued at $1.5 billion, during the eleven months of the current Iranian year (to end March 20), recording an increase of nearly 71% in both weigh and value compared with the similar period last year, a senior official at the ministry of Agricultural Jihad, Ali Mohseni, said on Friday. “More than 235,000 metric tons of pistachio has been produced this year, recording an increase of nearly 17% compared with last year” he was quoted by ISNA as saying. He further noted that Iran is the second biggest producer of pistachio after the United States. “However, with the recent increase in the production of pistachio Iran is likely to overtake the US,” he added.
