Iran has rejected recent remarks by US President Donald Trump on Tehran’s nuclear and missile programs, as well as casualties during January unrest, describing them as a “big lie.”
In a post on X, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei accused US officials of being “professional liars,” saying they are good at creating the “illusion of truth.”
“No one should be fooled by these prominent untruths,” he said.
Baghaei also accused the US administration and “war profiteers” surrounding it—particularly Israel—of systematically applying a propaganda principle attributed to Nazi Joseph Goebbels, repeating falsehoods to advance a “sinister disinformation and misinformation campaign against the nation of Iran.”
Speaking in his annual State of the Union address, Trump claimed Iran has developed missiles capable of threatening Europe and US bases abroad and is working on longer-range systems that could reach the United States.
He also said Washington had destroyed Iran’s nuclear weapons program during a 12-day conflict in June, but alleged Tehran had since revived what he described as its “sinister nuclear ambitions.”
Referring to ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington, with a third round scheduled for Thursday, Trump said Iran is seeking a deal but added that the US has not heard what he called the “sacred words” that Iran would never pursue nuclear weapons.
Iran, however, has repeatedly maintained that it will never seek nuclear arms or other weapons of mass destruction, citing religious doctrine and long-standing policy.
Trump concluded by saying he preferred a diplomatic resolution but would never allow what he called “the world’s largest state sponsor of terror” to obtain nuclear weapons.
In another part of his remarks, Trump alleged that the Islamic Republic had shot or executed at least 32,000 protesters during unrest in January.
Iranian authorities have said the violence during people’s peaceful protests was caused by the foreign-backed terrorist elements and resulted in slightly over 3,000 deaths.
