Iran’s Leader Defends Women’s Rights Within Islamic Framework

Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the Islamic Republic has disproved western false logic that Hijab will hinder women’s progress.

In a meeting with a group of women and girls on Wednesday, he said Iran proved that Muslim women committed to Islamic attire can excel and play leading roles across all fields.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that in Islam, women share equal rights with men in social activities, business, politics, and access to most government positions. He added that women also have full opportunities for spiritual growth and personal advancement.

Highlighting social protections, he stressed that women’s rights, such as equal pay for equal work, insurance coverage for employed women and female heads of households, and special leave entitlements, must be safeguarded without discrimination.

The Leader criticized what he described as the “destruction of the family” in Western capitalist culture, pointing to rising social issues such as fatherless children, weakened family ties, exploitation of young women, and the spread of sexual permissiveness under the banner of freedom.

“Capitalism deceitfully labels this vast array of corrupt practices as ‘freedom,’” he said, “but in reality, it is enslavement.”

Ayatollah Khamenei urged media outlets not to echo Western narratives on women’s dress and gender cooperation. Instead, he called for promoting Islam’s “deep and effective perspective” both domestically and internationally, saying this approach would attract many people worldwide, especially women, to the faith.
