Iran Says US Sending Mixed Signals on Nuclear Talks

Iran says the United States is sending contradictory signals through intermediaries regarding nuclear negotiations, complicating efforts to reach a deal.

Speaking at the 12th Abu Dhabi Strategic Dialogue, Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran seeks a “fully peaceful nuclear agreement” but will not compromise on national security under any circumstances, Fars News reported.

He said the mixed messages from Washington have made the negotiation process more difficult, but Iran remains committed to achieving a stable and balanced agreement that serves mutual interests.

Khatibzadeh reaffirmed Iran’s official stance, expressing pride in the country’s domestically developed nuclear program and stating that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons. He added that Tehran is ready to cooperate with the international community to provide assurances on this matter.

Iran-US talks were suspended after the Israeli assault in June that also involved US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities before a ceasefire on the 12th day.

Khatibzadeh said twelve days of aggression have altered realities on the ground and forced Iran to reassess many aspects of its response to this challenge.

He concluded by outlining the two forces shaping Iran’s foreign policy: structural factors rooted in geopolitics, geography, history, and identity, and situational factors driven by current regional developments. “This dynamic continues, and we are carefully evaluating all dimensions,” he said.
