FM: Talks With US Not Possible for Now

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that negotiations with the United States are currently off the table, pointing to what he described as a lack of goodwill and constructive behaviour from Washington.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, Araghchi explained that Iran is open to talks only if the US shows a genuine willingness to engage on equal terms and work toward a deal that benefits both sides. “Right now, we don’t see that kind of approach from the Americans,” he said.

Diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington have stalled since the June conflict, which began with an Israeli attack and escalated into a 12-day war involving US airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites.

In a recent statement, US President Donald Trump acknowledged his involvement, telling reporters, “Israel attacked first. That attack was very, very powerful. I was very much in charge of that.”

His comments contrast with earlier remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had claimed that Israel acted alone in launching strikes against Iran and that the US was focused solely on protecting its forces in the region.

Iran’s UN envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, responded in a letter to the UN Security Council, calling Trump’s comments proof of US leadership and responsibility in the attacks. He said the strikes led to the deaths of military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians, and described them as a serious breach of the UN Charter and international law.

Iravani added that both the United States and Israel must be held accountable for the damage caused, including the destruction of peaceful nuclear facilities under international safeguards.
