President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday called on members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to develop a coherent and development-oriented security architecture to enhance regional stability and cooperation. Addressing the fourth ECO Ministerial Meeting in Tehran, Pezeshkian said the organization is the product of decades of efforts toward economic convergence and can serve as a foundation for broader regional collaboration.
He emphasized that effective regional cooperation requires predictable and resilient frameworks, urging ECO countries — spanning Central Asia, the Caucasus, South Asia and the Persian Gulf — to coordinate more closely on shared security and economic goals.
Pezeshkian also highlighted the need to finalize the creation of an ECO police force, or “ECOPOL,” to strengthen law enforcement cooperation across member states. Established in 1985 by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan, the ECO now includes 10 members and serves as a major platform for regional economic integration and policy dialogue.
