Production Sector Not Prioritized by Banks

Presently, about 32% of bank resources are allocated to the production sector, while the services sector’s share is about 38% of these resources, a member of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture said.

“These figures show that production is not the top priority of the banking network,” Abolfazl Roghani also told ILNA in an interview.

“The government and its organizations should promote sustainable development and create favorable conditions for the growth and development of the industry by devising appropriate strategies and extending support,” he added.

Emphasizing the need to draft a new industrial development strategy, the ICCIMA member said the unfavorable indicators of business environment show that the industry sector is facing many challenges.

Roghani, who is also the head of Iran's Paper and Cardboard Producers Syndicate, strongly believes that small industries cannot compete with large foreign industries in terms of price and quality.

“Reasonable tariffs for a specific period can strengthen young domestic industries and create a level playing field,” he said.

“According to studies on Purchasing Managers’ Index, one of the most important complaints of producers pertains to the difficulty in financing both in terms of working capital and development of production capacity.”

He stated that inflation can be curbed if the foundations of industrial production are strengthened.

“With the proper management of stock exchange, the capacities of this financial market can be used to finance industries,” he said.

“Access to foreign currency is important for the stability and modernization of production lines.”

Roghani noted that industrialists are facing a troublesome bureaucracy.

“The industry is one of the most important sources of creating numerous and diverse jobs that improve the economic and social conditions of people. This has a significant impact on improving the living conditions of a society,” he said.
