A domestic knowledge-based company has developed a smart device to help visually-impaired people surf the internet in the most optimal way.
The screen reader makes it possible to read the text of web pages, according to the manager of Poli Be Sooye Farda (A bridge to tomorrow in Persian) Company.
“The company joined the list of innovative firms with Follow Service [an internet assistant for the blind]. The product automatically identifies the main text of a web page and removes other unnecessary parts such as advertisements,” Alireza Qasemi was also quoted as saying by the news portal of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.
“With the help of speech recognition, text-to-speech services and the up-down buttons used in smartphones, visually-impaired people can visit different pages of a site and convert the main text of a page into speech,” he added.
A screen reader is an assistive technology, which acts as an interface between a screen and a person with visual impairment. It translates various elements on a screen to either speech or braille, and acts as an “intelligent communicator” between the machine and the blind user.
The digital service called Rayboard is another product of the company.
“Rayboard is a cloud computing tool for the integrated management of displays that allows organizations and businesses to easily display their desired content on any number of screens, at any distance and deliver and update the content in the shortest possible time,” the company’s manager said.
“This system can be used for informing clients and employees, displaying advertisements, increasing interaction, improving user experience and branding.”
Qasemi noted that Rayboard can activate 50 different widgets on a screen.
“Providing a suitable platform for advertising and presenting organizational content in an integrated manner with the ability to plan and control remotely are some of the important features of this domestic software,” he added.
The manager pointed out that this system is suitable for chain stores, banks, hospitals and universities.
“In a healthcare center, the system can inform patients about the waiting time. Commercial centers can use this tool to show store information to buyers. For example, an outdoor screen can provide direction for parking spaces,” he said.
Qasemi said the knowledge-based company currently employs five specialists, which will be expanded as its sales increase.
Iris Recognition System Developed
A knowledge-based company has developed an iris recognition system that helps identify people and register office attendance, according to a member of the Board of Directors of Artificial Intelligence Rayvarz Company.
“The rising need for greater security has led to the development of smart identification systems based on human biometric characteristics,” Hossein Heidari was also quoted as saying by the news portal of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.
He noted that the system scans physiological or behavioral characteristics to identify a person through iris recognition.
“The human eye has unique features. The color of the iris acts like a fingerprint and nobody else in the world can have the same iris as another person. Also, the presence of the eye lens causes the iris to take the shape of a three-dimensional truncated cone and can be recognized by the system,” he added. According to Heidari, the probability of system error in this method is 1 in 1,078, which is considerable.
“Scanning the iris allows the system to check and compare 200 parts of the iris that do not undergo changes with the passage of time and this feature makes this identification method superior to other methods,” he said.
“In most cases, the iris remains unchanged after surgery. Even blind people can be recognized by the device as long as their eyes have an iris. The use of glasses or contact lenses also does not interfere with the diagnosis and the Iranian device can also be used in environments where glass or protective plastics are used.”
Heidari stressed that the iris recognition system can perform iris registration via different modes.
“The production of Iran’s iris detection system has created many jobs and prevented currency outflow by making the import of foreign counterparts unnecessary,” he said.
Warehouse Management Software
A domestic knowledge-based company has developed a warehouse management software that helps optimize inventory processes and eases production, in addition to providing inventory information crucial for the smooth functioning of a production line.
“The management of warehouse inventory are vital for controlling the processes of supply, production, sales and maintenance,” said a member of the Board of Directors of Behineh Sazan Etelaat Pouya Company.
“The knowledge-based warehouse management software can prevent potential losses [in production lines and warehouses] to a considerable extent,” Bahareh Shoaibi was also quoted as saying by the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.
Warehousing operations include inventory control, product placement, order registration and accounting of raw materials and products. Handling these activities manually will not only be time-consuming, but could also give rise to human errors.
“For instance, by monitoring how many products are in the processes of production, sale, warehousing, delivery, etc., at any given moment, this software will prevent any likely interruption of production,” she added.
The knowledge-based company’s official said the warehouse management software is easy to use and does not require specialized training.
Bahareh stressed that the domestic software is much cheaper than foreign counterparts.
“Unlike what most people expect [that this software will destroy job opportunities], the production of this software has created more jobs and made warehousing online and fast,” she said.
