A total of 171,000 tons of goods worth $103.17 million were exported from Iran’s northeastern Golestan Province during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21-Sept. 22), registering an 18% fall in weight but a 42% rise in value compared with the similar period of last year, according to a local customs official.
“The exports included polystyrene, cheese, iodine, different types of pipes and profiles, dates, copper wires, metal structures, fish feed and industrial milk powder,” Ebrahim Hosseini was also quoted as saying by IRNA, adding that 32 countries were destinations of these exports.
Turkmenistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Romania, Bulgaria, Armenia, Poland, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Russia, the UAE, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey were the main importers.
According to the official, a total of 11,056 tons of goods worth $20.97 million were imported into Golestan via Incheh Boroun border during the same period.
The imports mainly included unprocessed vegetable oil, soybean, textile, diesel generators, residue wax and foots oil and cotton linters.
Turkmenistan, Turkey, China, the UK, India, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Italy, Denmark, Uzbekistan, Germany, Iraq and Spain were the main exporters.
“The province earned 766 billion ($2.39 million) in customs revenues during the period, registering a 122% rise year-on-year,” Hosseini said.
Golestan is located in northeast Iran and southeast of the Caspian Sea. The province has six border crossings and neighbors Turkmenistan. The international Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran rail route passes through the city of Incheh Boroun in Golestan and facilitates exports, imports and transit through this northeastern Iranian province.
A total of 402,000 tons of non-oil commodities worth $183.6 million were exported from Golestan in the last Iranian year (March 2021-22), registering a 51% and 63% rise in weight and value respectively compared with the previous year.
Close to 20,000 tons of commodities worth an overall $62.27 million were also imported into the country through Golestan’s checkpoints.
