The daily amount of sweet gas transmission in Iran will surpass 880 million cubic meters later this year, the managing director of Iranian Gas Transmission Company said.
“Last year, the sweet gas transfer record, set in January, was 852 million cubic meters per day. The figure is expected to reach 881 mcm this year with the expansion of transmission lines,” Gholamabbas Hosseini was also quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana.
The rise in transfer will be made possible through the development plans underway in different regions. With the installation of new pipelines and construction of pressure boosting stations, more gas can be transmitted through the Iran Gas Trunkline, which is a series of nine large diameter pipelines built to supply gas from refineries in southern Iran (Khuzestan and Bushehr provinces).
Referring to the average daily transmission of natural gas in the country, Hosseini said that according to the latest reports, 700 mcm of gas were transferred on overage per day during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21-June 21).
The official noted that 65 billion cubic meters of natural gas were injected to the network during the said period.
In terms of the size of the network, IGTC, a subsidiary of National Iranian Gas Company, ranks first in Asia and the Middle East and fourth in the world after the US, Russia and Canada, he added.
“The company has laid more than 38,000 kilometers of pipelines and built 88 gas pressure boosting stations with 326 compressor units and nine gas export and import terminals. It has the capacity to transfer more than 280 bcm of gas per year,” Hosseini said.
