Dehloran Complex to Help Complete Petrochem Industry’s Value Chain

The construction of three units to produce high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene and propylene has begun at the Dehloran Petrochemical Complex.

The HDPE and LDPE units will have a production capacity of 300,000 tons per year and the propylene unit will produce 150,000 tons per annum. The projects are to be completed in three years, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.

The petrochemical complex is being built 15 km southeast of Dehloran County in the western Ilam Province.

Located near Iraq’s border, the plant is also designed to produce pyrolysis gasoline and diesel. NGL 3100, an under-development venture to collect associated petroleum gases from oilfields in Ilam, will feed Dehloran Petrochemical Complex with natural gas.

The Dehloran venture is part of a drive to complete the value chain in the downstream petrochemical industry. The plant will bolster the region’s economy by creating dozens of jobs.

With a population of around 66,000, Dehloran is home to an oilfield that went on stream about 40 years ago.

The county is set to become one of the largest domestic producers of highly-used petrochemicals: ethylene, as the building block for a vast range of chemicals, and propylene, a thermoplastic polymer with wide applications in packaging, textiles, laboratory equipment and automotive components.

Iran is expanding its petrochemical industry to generate more revenue from chemicals and petrochemicals that offer higher value-added compared to the sale of crude oil and natural gas.

NGL 3100 or Dehloran natural gas processing plant will be fed with as much as 6 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The much-needed feedstock for NGL 3100 will be supplied with the help of four gas pressure regulating and metering stations in Ilam. It will receive its 6 million-cubic-meter feedstock from Dehloran, Cheshmeh Khosh, West Paydar and Azar oilfields.

The installation of a 58-kilometer pipeline from Dehloran gas booster station to the site of NGL 3100 has started recently.

As soon as the plant goes on stream, 1,170 barrels of gas condensates, 2 mcm of sweet gas as well as 3 mcm of sour gas will be produced per day.

Natural gas liquids are components of natural gas, which are separated from gas in the form of liquids in gas processing plants through absorption, condensation or other methods.

The initiative will help cut APG in the region – a major source of pollution, as large amounts of harmful emissions are released in the environment through gas flaring.
