Large Caps Drag Down TEDPIX

Tehran Stocks opened trading week Saturday under renewed sell-side pressure in most large listed companies while penny stocks traded moderately.

The market-cap weighted benchmark of Tehran Stock Exchange, TEDPIX, lost 11,308.84 points or 0.88% for the day to retreat to 1,270,727.

Sell-off in giant commodity, investment, bank and auto companies pulled down the TSE-30 Index by 1.55%. The index tracks the performance of top 30 TSE-listed companies in terms of market cap.

The TSE’s equal-weighted index closed near the flatline at 0.03% as early hour sell side pressure on small caps eased in the final moments of session.  

As with the previous session, the main winners were  electricity producers as investor sentiment was buoyed by unconfirmed reports that the government is planning to increase the price of electricity.

About 5.87 billion shares valued at 43.98 trillion rials ($175.94 million) changed hands at TSE for the day. Sina Darou Laboratories Company was the biggest winner as its shares went up 5.37% to 19,440 rials per share.

Zar Spring Company suffered the biggest loss among all TSE-listed companies and went down 41.89% to 21,740 rials per share.

Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company contributed the most to the benchmark's fall, followed by Social Security Investment Company, Mobarakeh Steel Company and Esfahan Oil Refining Company.

Mapna Group gave the biggest boost to the benchmark index followed by Pars Petrochemical Company, Mobin Energy Persian Gulf Company and Telecommunication Company of Iran.

IFX Up 0.32%

Iran Fara Bourse main index, IFX, gained 58.48 points or 0.32% to close Saturday trade at 18,426.39. About 2.34 billion securities valued at 208.15 trillion rials ($832.63m) were traded at the junior exchange for the day.

Zagros Petrochemical Company, Arya Sasol Polymer Company, Hormozgan Steel Company and Shahid Tondgooyan Petrochemical Company had the most negative impact on IFX.

Marun Petrochemical Company gave the biggest boost to IFX, followed by Damavand Power Generation Company, Omid Taban Hour Energy Management Company and Minoo Industrial Group Company.
