A 40,000-ton vessel docked at Shahid Bahonar Port in Hormozgan Province’s Bandar Abbas.
“This is the first time the southern port has accommodated a vessel with such capacity,” the manager of Shahid Bahonar Port and Maritime Office said on Wednesday.
“Prior to this, the largest vessel that had berthed at the port had a capacity of 35,000 tons,” Hamidreza Mohammad-Hosseini Takhti was quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and urban Development.
The official noted that the berthing of the vessel has been unprecedented in the 50 years since the port has become operational.
Shahid Bahonar is one of the most active ports in southern Iran in both passenger and freight transportation. The port enjoys a strategic position due to its proximity to the Persian Gulf littoral states and the Iranian islands of Qeshm and Kish.
