    66% of Iranian Households Traveled at Least Once in Spring

    Some 25 million (66%) Iranian households travelled at least once in the spring of the current Iranian year (March 21-June 21, 2019). 

    The number indicates a 2.2% decline compared with the similar period of last year, according to figures released by the Statistical Center of Iran.

    Close to 103 million journeys were made over the period, registering a 9% decrease compared with the previous spring.

    Domestic journeys accounted for 102 million of the total number of travels, 46% of which involved overnight stays.

    The main domestic destinations with overnight stays were the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, Mazandaran, Tehran, Fars, Gilan, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Kerman, Hormozgan and Khuzestan. 

    Some 60% of these journeys were made to visit family and friends, 22% for recreation, 8% for medical purposes, 7% for pilgrimages and the remaining 3% for education, shopping and business.

    Travelers who stayed at their destinations overnight were lodged in the houses of family members and friends (74%), rented villa or apartment (9%), their own villa or apartment (7%), tents, camps and public lodgings (3%), lodgings provided by organizations (2%) and other types of lodgings (2%). 

    The provinces of Gilan, Mazandaran, Kermanshah, Tehran, Fars, Golestan, Qazvin, Khorasan Razavi, West Azarbaijan and Isfahan were the main destinations for travels without an overnight stay. 

    Around 34% of these travels were made for recreation, 30% to visit family and friends, 18% to seek medical care and 9% for shopping. The remaining 9% were made for education, pilgrimage and business.
