An Iranian actor believes that increasing the number of TV channels “should not have been done in the first place as there not enough or proper programs to feed the viewers.”

Jafar Dehghan, the well-known TV and cinema actor, told ISNA on Thursday that although there are more than 20 local TV channels, they do not help “to raise the number of viewers since interesting programs are not produced.”

He stressed that the way to reconcile the people with the national TV channels is to improve the quality of the programs rather than adding to the quantity. “Merging TV channels as a result of downsizing of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) is a positive step which could have been made earlier as it can reduce the high costs and expenses of this big organization and the funds spent to produce quality and attractive programs,” he added.

Born in 1960 in Tehran, Jafar Dehghan has acted in more than 30 movies and TV series. He is best known for his roles in historical TV series such as ‘Mokhtar Nameh’, Joseph the Prophet, and ‘Saint Mary’.
