Italy’s unemployment rate edged down to 11.2% in August from 11.3% the month before, as some 36,000 jobs were created, national statistics bureau ISTAT reported on Monday, Reuters reported. In the three months to August 113,000 jobs were created compared with the March-to-May period, ISTAT said. In August the youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, also fell slightly to 35.1% from 35.4% to post its lowest level since April this year. Italy’s overall employment rate, one of the lowest in the eurozone, rose in August to 58.2% from 58.1% in July, continuing the gradual upward trend in progress for the last four years.
