New Zealand was expected to post improved economic growth in its second-quarter GDP report on Thursday, just days before voting starts in a hotly contested general election in which the economy has been a dominant issue. Ten economists polled by Reuters expected quarterly gross domestic product growth of 0.8% on average in the three months to the end of June, up from a tepid 0.5% in the previous quarter. The 0.8% estimate would slightly undershoot the 0.9% the Reserve Bank of New Zealand forecast in August. The economists polled predicted annual growth of 2.5%, unchanged from the previous quarter.
