Bank Indonesia seized and physically destroyed 189,477 sheets of counterfeit money on Wednesday. Before the counterfeits were destroyed, according to BI Executive Director of Money Management Suhaedi, the fake bills were firstly verified and analyzed for its authenticity at the BI Counterfeit Analysis Center laboratory, Tempo.co reported. After the bills were verified to be counterfeit, they were handed over to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Corps, and the destruction was then legalized by the South Jakarta District Court. The counterfeit money was discovered in the period of 2014-2016.
