US senators were scheduled to hold a special session Saturday for a series of votes on a $1.1 trillion spending bill that lawmakers need to approve to avert a government shutdown, AFP said. The huge federal spending bill has already been passed by the House of Representatives but senators on Friday were unable to give their final approval.
