Scottish BCI Up

Scottish business confidence grew in the first quarter of 2017, ending an almost two-year decline, according to research by the Federation of Small Businesses, MachineryMarket reported. However, the FSB’s latest business confidence index shows that the average Scottish business owner is still much less optimistic than his English or Welsh counterparts. Furthermore, the report suggests that the Scottish economy is unlikely to rebound in the short term, because firms expecting conditions to improve are still significantly out-numbered by firms expecting them to deteriorate. The Scottish business optimism ‘metric’ rose from -28.9 points at the end of 2016 to -9.6 points at the end of March.
