Canada Jobless Rate Falls

Canada’s economy unexpectedly created 11,000 jobs in November, as an increase in part-time positions offset a loss of full-time work, Yahoo reported. This marked the second consecutive month where the creation of part-time work outpaced full-time hours. “Plenty of jobs in the offing, but not the kind of work we’d like to see,” Avery Shenfeld, chief economist with CIBC, said in a research note. Over the past year, Canada has added 213,000 part-time jobs and eliminated 30,500 full-time positions, according to Statistics Canada’s monthly labor report released on Friday. Among the provinces, Ontario and Quebec added positions. But Alberta shed 13,000 spots, reversing some of the gains made in the previous few months.
