South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc said its July-September operating profit more than doubled from a year earlier as earnings from its mobile business surged to a five-year high. LG said it shipped 16.8 million smartphones during the third quarter, a record but well below Samsung, which some analysts estimate shipped more than 80 million units.
