Sentiment among so-called Japan economy watchers improved for the first time in three months in October, reflecting a recovery in consumer spending in some sectors, a government survey has shown, Jiji Press reported. Component indicators related to retailers and the restaurant industry improved mainly thanks to favorable weather in the month, according to the survey. The diffusion index gauging sentiment on current economic conditions compared with three months before rose 0.7 point from September to 48.2, the cabinet office said. The index stood below the boom-or-bust threshold of 50 for the third month in a row. The government agency kept its assessment unchanged, saying that the Japanese economy has stayed on a moderate recovery.
