Turkey Jobless Rate Climbs

The Turkish unemployment rate rose to 9.6% in the May-July period from 9.3% during April-June and was up from 9.1% in the same period a year earlier, according to the data released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) on Tuesday, BGN news reported. The non-farm unemployment rate, also measured on a three-month average, stood at 11.7% during the May-July period, up from 11.4% in the April-June period and up from 11.2% a year earlier. There was a 0.5 percentage point rise in unemployment over the year to June with 2.88 million out of work, an increase of 226,000.
