A tax cut and families package announced in last week’s budget have helped shore up Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s leadership as an opinion poll showed Australia’s fiscal blueprint is the best-received since 2008, Bloomberg reported. Three months after surviving a leadership challenge, Abbott’s approval rating rose 2 percentage points to an eight-month high of 39%, according to a Newspoll published in the Australian newspaper on Monday. Forty-six percent of respondents said the budget would be good for the economy, the best rating for seven years.
