Iran Airports Company registered 34,774 takeoffs and landings during the first month of the current Iranian year (March 21-April 20), which shows a 15% decrease compared with the similar period of last year.
A total of 4.32 million passengers and 49,200 tons of cargos were transported during the period, indicating a 14% and 11% decline respectively year-on-year, IAC's latest data published on its website show.
The latest IAC report also shows 28,975 takeoffs and landings were made by domestic flights during the one month, down 12% compared with the similar period of last year. More than 3.43 million passengers and 31,629 tons of cargo were transported domestically, indicating a 10% and 6% decline respectively YOY.
On the international front, 5,799 takeoffs and landings were registered, down by 29% YOY. A total of 893,094 passengers and more than 17,570 tons of cargo were transported to and from overseas destinations, posting a 27% and 19% decrease respectively compared with the corresponding period of last year.
Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport was the busiest Iranian airport during the period, with 10,073 takeoffs and landings, registering an 11% fall.
Close to 1.2 million passengers as well as 10,641 tons of cargo were handled at this airport, showing an 8% and 4% fall respectively YOY.
Mashhad International Airport was the second busiest airport with 4,449 takeoffs and landings, indicating a 20% decrease. It transported a total of 670,985 passengers and 6,774 tons of cargos, indicating a 17% and 13% decline respectively year-on-year.
Imam Khomeini International Airport registered 3,993 takeoffs and landings to register a 31% fall, while transporting 657,516 passengers and over 13,067 tons of cargos to be ranked third on the list of Iran’s busiest airports. The figures show a 26% and 18% decline YOY.
Iran Airports Company is affiliated to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, which manages 54 airports across the country.
